Dakar 2026 // SS9: De Mévius and Baud in the Top 10

01/13/2026

  • De Mévius and Baumel impress with fifth place
  • Baud family shines with strong ninth position

On the ninth special stage – the first part of the second marathon leg – the X-raid crews showcased the full potential of their desert machines. Guillaume de Mévius and Mathieu Baumel delivered an excellent performance in the MINI JCW Rally 3.0i, securing a strong fifth place. Lionel and Lucie Baud were equally impressive in the MINI JCW Rally 3.0d, crossing the finish line in an outstanding ninth position. However, both crews are unable to celebrate their success with the team just yet: they will spend the evening in the desert and must service their cars on their own.

De Mévius and Baumel started the stage from seventh place and remained consistently within the leading group throughout the day. They managed to overtake several competitors and, despite having to open tracks for those behind them, maintained a fast and steady pace. Their fifth-place finish also moves them up several positions in the overall standings.

Lionel and Lucie Baud also made significant progress with their ninth-place result, climbing into the top 30. Starting from 25th, they initially settled within the top 20. Over the final 150 kilometers, the duo increased their pace considerably and pushed forward continuously – earning a well-deserved ninth place at the finish.

Tomorrow, the route takes the crews to Bisha, where they will reunite with their team. The roughly 420 kilometers ahead represent a substantial challenge, with more than half of the distance consisting of sand and sections of very soft dunes.

Statements

Guillaume de Mévius (MINI JCW Rally 3.0i): “I’m satisfied, even though it wasn’t an ideal stage for us because we got lost at one point. I think we, like many others, lost around 15 minutes. The rest of the stage went quite well. We may not be fighting for top positions in the overall standings, but today was an important day at this year’s Dakar.”
